Young Enterprise 2020-2021

This is the first year Carrongrange have been able to participate with the introduction of the new YE Scotland "Teams Programme" specifically designed for ASN pupils. Throughout the year pupils started up their own business allocating themselves roles by identifying their own skills and matching these to responsibilities that would be required.  They then thought of a product, developed their own name and logo to brand their product and set about working together to source and manufacture their items.  They decided to use school resources including the laser cutter to create high quality goods that they sold around the school. They then expanded their business further by selling the produce in the school Christmas catalogue with products being sent all over Scotland and even to France and Sweden!

The pupils worked hard on their business skills learning in a real life context developing, numeracy, communication, problem solving and resilience along the way.  They had a few bumps in  the road with differences in opinion and frustrations at each other’s understanding, pace of work and attitudes but they realised that they had to work as a team in order to be successful in their business.

Throughout the session they sold over £800 of products and they donated their profit to charity, school funds and future YE teams, as welll as rewarding themselves with a celebration event and a small wage.  Their hard work was noted with them not only winning "Company of the Year" in the Scottish finals but also coming second in the UK!

The life skills they have developed will hopefully serve them in good stead for the future and we are immensely proud of them all.
