Opportunities for Families to Engage
1. Open communication channels
All parents/pupils have the seesaw app and parents are encouraged to communicate if they have any questions or concerns. Open dialogue helps both school and families stay up to date with young people’s progress.
2. Career and college support – We have regular input from Falkirk E.T.U (Education and Training Unit) and SDS (Skills Development Scotland)
3. Provide emotional and social support – We have a school counsellor who can offer support to both young people and their families. We also have our Inclusion worker, Maisie who works with individual young people and groups to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Maisie offers a range of interventions depending on need and also works closely with our families. We also have links with outside agencies such as FDAHM and Barnardo’s
4. Parents getting involved with the school community – Gardening projects and Fundraising events.
5. Monthly Get Togethers – Organised fun events to give parents the opportunity to come together to chat and share experiences as well as perhaps learning a new skill.
6. Uniform Bank
7. C.A.N (Carrongrange Attendance and Nurture). This group runs 3 times a week and allows the young people to have a soft start in the mornings, have breakfast and regulate emotionally before heading to class. We offer various interventions during this time depending on the needs of the young person. We work alongside parents communicating regularly to encourage young people to attend and this has in turn improved the attendance of the young people involved.
